Young Thug Releases New Album BUSINESS IS BUSINESS (Album Review)
Young Thug released a new album "BUSINESS IS BUSINESS" while incarcerated on RICO charges and awaiting trial.
The Atlanta rapper's new album is his first since October 2021's Punk. The album comes amidst media attention and controversy surrounding the high-profile case involving Young Thug, Gunna, and other members of the YSL label
BUSINESS IS BUSINESS starts out with smooth, lofi synth chords on"Parade on Cleveland" and we hear Drake singing over a mellow beat for 2 minutes before a phone from the "Cobb County Adult Detention Facility" plays and we hear Young Thug and Drake having a quick chat before a new beat comes in and Young Thug comes out of silence and raps hard bars over the rest of the track. This first track is a great introduction to what turned out to be a new classic Young Thug album, for both the history behind the release and the enjoyable music.
The album features production from Wheezy, Metro Boomin, Dr. Luke, Aviator Keyyz, and many other producers. The other features on the album include Lil Uzi Vert, Future, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, and Yo Gotti. The 15-track project touches many different vibes and emotions, and Young Thug stays true to his lyrical and melodic roots, while giving us an evolved and developed sound and movement behind the production and arrangement of the project
Overall, I'm rating BUSINESS IS BUSINESS a 7.8/10. It is a strong album with great production and features, and will be remembered as a staple in his career. There are better Young Thug projects out there and we are familiar with this sound already, which is holding it back from crossing into the 8s. My favorite tracks so far are "Cars Bring Me Out", "Wit Da Racks" & "Hellcat Kenny"
It will be interesting to see the sales numbers of this albums release, considering that Thug is still in jail and unable to promote his album to the public, and this release is coming 1 week after Gunna released "a Gift & a Curse", his first project since his release in December 2022. Many YSL fans are still listening to Gunna's new album and they both share many similar fans, so only time will tell how the streams and sales will compete.
